Mars Foods: circular wastewater treatment
King’s Lynn. Genco designed and installed a bespoke wastewater treatment system for Mars Foods, recycling water into the factory process and eliminating the need for wastewater disposal trucks.

Problem
Mars Foods is a global food manufacturer. At its King’s Lynn site, the existing wastewater treatment plant was inefficient, difficult to maintain and prone to breakdowns.
Multiple wastewater trucks were needed each week to remove sludge water from the plant, creating substantial disposal costs.

Solution
Genco designed and installed a bespoke wastewater treatment system, built around the needs of the factory.
The new system recycles wastewater back into the factory process and removes the need for wastewater disposal trucks.
Result
Mars now has a highly efficient wastewater treatment plant that uses circular engineering to reuse wastewater. The new process has eliminated wastewater disposal trucks, delivering a 100% reduction in wastewater truck costs.
Treated sludge water is processed into green bricks and collected in a skip. The system delivers significant cost savings, helps optimise production and reduces the site’s footprint.
